Nanaimo RCMP say that a local father-to-be will be forever grateful for the kindness of a stranger who found his lost wallet and $600 cash, which was turned in to police for safe keeping.
The 36-year-old man, Josh, says he lost his wallet around 10 a.m. on Tuesday July 22nd, in the vicinity of Nanaimo Toyota on Bowen Road.
According to police Josh didn’t realize he was missing his wallet until 9 p.m. that night, when he went to a local convenience store.
“Panic soon set in for Josh that night when he informed his 5-month pregnant wife at her ultrasound appointment of his loss,” said Nanaimo RCMP in a media release.
“He was also dreading having to cancel his cards and the process ahead of him to get them replaced.”
However, unbeknownst to Josh, a Good Samaritan happened to be walking by the car dealership around 7 p.m. that same day.
Police say that 68-year-old Miguel looked down and saw a wallet lying next to a rain gutter.
He reportedly picked it up, noticed the cash and cards then headed directly to Nanaimo RCMP headquarters to turn it in.
When he arrived and found the detachment closed to the public, Miguel opted to hold onto the wallet for the night, turning it in the next day.
“Found wallets are often turned in with their contents in place but what cash there was, mysteriously missing,” said R/Cst Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
“When Miguel was told this, he said that his parents raised him to always do the right thing. He also said that he knew what a headache it would be to replace all of the ID that the wallet contained.”
Police say that when Josh was called with the news his wallet and cash had been recovered, he was ecstatic.
