There’s two powerful Indigenous-led performances coming to Victoria this week

Share

Langham Court Theatre is shining a spotlight on Indigenous stories, voices and perspectives.

Two compelling productions will be taking place at Langham Court Theatre this week, presented by Reconciliation Theatre of Nanaimo and Victoria-based Indigenous Healing Arts Network.

The Boy in the Treehouse and Gold, running on Friday, July 25th and Sunday, July 27th, offer audiences the opportunity to engage with powerful narratives that are rooted in identity, legacy and resilience.

While both are vastly different in style, they have a shared focus on truth and storytelling, making this double-feature a standout amongst the city’s summer arts calendar.

The Boy in the Treehouse was directed and produced by Reconciliation Theatre, showcasing a tender coming-of-age story that follows Simon.

Simon is a young Indigenous boy navigating the complexities of identity and belonging. In seeking refuge in his treehouse, he embarks on a journey filled with questions, quiet magic and laughter—a balance of charm and emotional weight.

Gold, presented by the Indigenous Healing Arts Network, is a contemporary interpretive dance and has no dialogue.

The piece brings audiences the true story of the Giant Mine on Dënéndeh, the traditional territory of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation in the Northwest Territories.

Through movement, audiences will be shown the long-lasting consequences of environmental devastation caused by the mine’s operations, which left 237,000 tons of toxic arsenic in the ground.

Ticket prices vary, but start at $15.

Be stirred, leave inspired. This is a set of shows that will leave a lasting impression.
