A large police response in Saanich early Thursday morning was due to a break-and-enter in progress.
According to Saanich Police, the break-in occurred just after 9 a.m., in the 4400 block of Chatterton Way.
Saanich Police officers, along with the Integrated Canine Service and the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT) responded and surrounded the home with the suspects still inside.
Police say the two individuals were located in the lower part of the residence.
Almost an hour later, Just before 10 a.m., one of the two individuals exited and surrendered without incident, according to Saanich Police.
However, the second individual refused to exit the home, which resulted in the situation being deemed a mental health crisis.
At around 12:40 p.m., police entered the home and took the individual into custody without incident.
Saanich Police say the individual was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and was taken to hospital to receive care.
