Body of missing Vancouver Island man located as investigation continues

A tragic update has been shared in the search for Austin Lloyd, a 26-year-old man who was reported missing from Vancouver Island in late April.

According to Port Hardy RCMP, Lloyd has been located deceased. Police say the investigation remains ongoing as they work to determine the cause of his death.

Lloyd was last seen on April 14th and was officially reported missing on April 24th.

His disappearance prompted an extensive search effort across northern Vancouver Island, including involvement from RCMP detachments in Port Hardy, Port McNeill, and Alert Bay, as well as the Island District General Investigation Section.

On May 10th, Campbell River Search and Rescue conducted a focused search along Highway 19 between Port Hardy and Port McNeill in hopes of finding any clues related to his whereabouts.

RCMP are now asking anyone who may have information about Lloyd’s activities prior to his death to contact the Port Hardy detachment at 250-949-6335.

No further details have been released.
