West Shore RCMP are investigating an impaired driving accident that sent a motorcyclist to hospital.
On Saturday, April 5th at around 8:46 p.m., officers responded to a collision involving a sedan and a motorcycle near the intersection of West Shore Parkway and Kettle Lake Drive in Langford.
Upon arrival at the scene, police learned that the driver of a 2020 Mazda 3 was turning left onto West Shore Parkway from Kettle Lake Drive when it collided with the motorcycle that was travelling east.
The motorcycle is said to have sustained extensive damage, and the driver of the motorcycle was taken to the hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
Police identified the driver of the Mazda 3 as a 30-year-old Colwood man, who was arrested after they observed signs of alcohol consumption and further investigation ensued.
The Mazda was impounded and the suspect was released with an upcoming court date, as well as issued a 90-day driving prohibition along with a violation ticket for no drivers license.
This was not the only collision involving impaired driving in the West Shore this weekend.
Four other impaired drivers were taken off the road and issued 90-day driving prohibitions between Friday April 4th and Sunday April 6th night.
Another incident, impaired driving incident occurred on April 6th at 9 p.m. in the 3200 block of Richmond Road of Saanich which saw a vehicle crash at a high rate of speed

Footage of the crash, posted online by Kayne Gurak, shows a car speeding down the street before losing control, smashing into a telephone pole and a tree.
According to Saanich Police, officers suspected the driver was impaired. When asked to provide a breath sample, the driver refused, which lead to their arrest.
“53% of impaired related crashes in B.C. happen on a weekend. Our officers are committed to enhancing road safety and will continue to target impaired driving,” said Cpl. Mike Jacobson, West Shore RCMP Traffic Unit.
“Please plan ahead for a safe and sober ride home.”
