March was a busy month at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, as nearly 40,000 fans came through the doors for a mix of exciting hockey matchups and major live events.
The action started strong with a pair of Victoria Royals wins over the Portland Winterhawks, drawing more than 4,000 fans on March 1st.
From there, the arena hosted a sold-out show by country star Jelly Roll on March 6th, who kicked off his Beautifully Broken: Great Northern Tour to a packed Victoria crowd.
Tickets for that concert sold out in less than five minutes.
The Royals wrapped up their regular season with a back-to-back series against the Spokane Chiefs on March 7th and 8th, drawing over 6,800 fans. On March 14th, their annual Fan Appreciation Night brought in the largest crowd of the season — more than 6,000 fans — for a clash with the Vancouver Giants.
Live entertainment continued mid-month, with comedian Theo Von bringing his Return of the Rat tour to town on March 16th. Just days later, legendary group The Beach Boys launched their Endless Summer Gold tour in front of an enthusiastic crowd on March 22nd.
Closing out the month, the Royals opened their WHL playoff run with two home games against the Tri-City Americans on March 29th and 30th, drawing another 8,500 fans.
The team swept the weekend series at home and went on to clinch the first-round win with a dominant 7–0 victory in game five.
With the Royals now advancing to Round 2 of the playoffs, April is shaping up to be just as exciting. On top of more post-season hockey, Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre is set to welcome rock band Bush and comedy legend Jerry Seinfeld.
Looking ahead to May, Cirque du Soleil will take over the arena with its acclaimed CRYSTAL ice show, running for eight performances from May 8th to 18th — marking the company’s first-ever performance on ice in Victoria.
