Residents across Greater Victoria are reporting they felt Thursday night’s small earthquake off the coast of Victoria.
Emergency BC reported the quake as a 4.0 magnitude event. However, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the 3.8 magnitude quake struck at 9:59 p.m., approximately 17 km southeast of Victoria, at a depth of 40.3 km.

Earthquakes Canada reports the quake as a 3.8 magnitude tremor. Since the earthquake, the agency has received 284 reports from people who felt the shaking.
While the quake was widely felt, there are no reports of damage or tsunami concerns at this time—though it certainly gave many a late-night jolt.
