Early this morning, North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP responded to a report of a man pointing a firearm near the Quw’utsun Secondary School in Duncan.
At around 9:15 a.m., on Thursday, January 9th, police responded to the area of Kin Park, which is adjacent to the secondary school.
According to police, because of the nature of this call, a large response was sent to the area for containment, and a ‘hold and secure’ protocol was initiated at the school.
Police say officers conducted a sweep of the school and the area around it and began an investigation to locate video surveillance or additional witnesses.
However, shortly after this, students from the high school came forward, admitting they were filming for a project at school.
The students were reportedly using a wooden stick, mimicking the act of shooting.
No firearms were involved in this incident.
Police say they are grateful that these students came forward to resolve this investigation promptly.
