On Friday, December 20th, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced BC will have a newly appointed Lieutenant Governor.
Wendy Lisogar-Cocchia has been chosen as the new Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia.
She is known as a respected entrepreneur in the hospitality industry as well as a dedicated community leader and philanthropist.
Additionally, Lisogar-Cocchia is an advisor to business associations and community organizations, and is a co-founder of the Pacific Autism Family Network, which supports neurodivergent people and their families.
She is an esteemed Canadian and British Columbian having received the Order of Canada, the Order of British Columbia, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, the King Charles III Coronation Medal as well as and two honorary doctorates.
“Ms. Lisogar-Cocchia has long been a champion for the people of her community, her province, and our country,” said Trudeau.
“I know she will continue to make a difference for British Columbians as Lieutenant Governor, and I wish her all the best in this new role.”
Lisogar-Cocchia will be replacing former lieutenant governor Janet Austin, who served the position for six years.
Lieutenant Governors are officially appointed by the Governor General of Canada at the recommendation of the Prime Minister.
Lisogar-Cocchia will serve a term of at least five years as the personal representatives of His Majesty The King of Canada.
Her role will be to fulfill the roles and functions of the Crown, including granting Royal Assent to provincial laws.
