Nanaimo RCMP say that an alleged act of reckless driving has led to a driver losing control and crashing his vehicle into a nearby home.
Police say this incident occurred at around 10:15 p.m. on Saturday, November 30th.
When police arrived, after receiving reports of what transpired, witnesses told officers that they saw the motorist driving in aggressive circles around the roundabout at the intersection of Butcher Road and Kenwill Drive.
The reported ‘donuts’ this driver was doing around the traffic circle ended with the vehicle losing control, driving over the front lawn of a residence, then crashing into the foundation of the home.
The vehicle became lodged on the residence and damaged some brick work and a basement window, according to police.
Witnesses told officers, once the car had crashed into the house, the two occupants of the vehicle fled on foot.
Police say they were able to track down the alleged driver and subsequently served the young man with several violation tickets, including failing to remain at the scene of an accident and driving without due care.
No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
“This incident could have ended tragically and is a good reminder that there is no time or place for this type of driving on our streets, and that drivers will be held responsible for their actions,” said R/Cst Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
The vehicle was removed from the home and towed away in the hours following the incident.
