The BC government is now seeking feedback on the Uptown transit hub which seeks to bring additional housing and accessibility to Saanich.
The engagement campaign for this project will run from Monday, August 19th to Wednesday, September 18th.
This ‘transit-oriented development’ will see housing, transit, active transportation infrastructure, businesses and other services come to the area adjacent to Uptown Shopping Centre—currently occupied by Budget Rent a Car, Recyclistas and some trades businesses.
“Transportation is the second-biggest household expense after housing. By building housing with lots of transportation options close by, people can improve their quality of life and live a more affordable, convenient and active lifestyle,” said Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Housing.
“That’s why we are building more homes for people near transit, such as Uptown, so people can continue to live and work in the community they love.”

Information about what the project could include is available online, as is a survey that the Province will use to gauge what residents hope to get out of the endeavour.
Additionally, at the intersection of the Galloping Goose and Lochside Regional Trails, a public engagement event will be taking place on Thursday, September 5th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
There will also be an open house held on Thursday, September 12th, located at the New Life Community Fellowship Church at 3900 Carey Road, between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
As this project is still in its earliest stages, the Province says they will gather and analyze the information provided through the engagement campaign and publish a report this winter with their findings.
A more-specific timeline for development at the Uptown site will be available when preliminary planning work is completed.
