On Wednesday, June 12th, cyclists of Langford celebrated the official opening of the Jordie Lunn Bike Park Clubhouse and a new off-road biking trail dubbed ‘Out of Hand.’

The new clubhouse is the focal point of the park and will provide a space for the community to gather, rent a bike or get snacks and beverages.

It was named in honour of the legendary mountain biker Jordie Lunn, who called Vancouver Island home.

Lunn was a champion of the sport and the park with his namesake will continue to nurture talent for generations to come.

Though the park itself has been open and operational since 2021, the new clubhouse will help nurture the cycling community in Langford and throughout Greater Victoria.

“Our family is grateful for the legacy that the Jordie Lunn Bike Park has provided,” said the Lunn family.

“The opening of the Clubhouse has become a perfect meeting place for the local community as well as cycling professionals and enthusiasts from all over the Island and the world. We are confident that the Jordie Lunn Bike Park will continue to thrive and provide cycling opportunities for all.”

In addition to the clubhouse providing a community space, the upper floor includes offices for Cycling BC, Cycling Canada and Nolan Riding, making it an epicentre for the cycling community.

On the main floor, the iconic Vancouver Island cafe, Rhino Coffee House will be setting up their second West Shore location along with Broad Street Cycles who will offer bike rentals, repairs and sales.

“I want to thank and acknowledge everyone who was instrumental in building this facility, including the previous Mayor and Council who created the vision for the Clubhouse,” said Scott Goodmanson, Mayor of Langford.

“This project is a notable example of the continuity between the previous and current Council to see the vision of the project through to completion. I am looking forward to seeing this new venue become a community hub and a place for friends and neighbours to connect.”

People can expect lots of programing, clinics, training camps and events to take place at the clubhouse and park with both Cycling BC and Cycling Canada being situated at the park and School District 62 will be using the space for their district-wide mountain biking program.

The new bike trail, Out of Hand, is the 13th trail within the Langford Gravity Zone and Nature Trails Park.

It is a 462 metre trail that was volunteer-built and given a black diamond downhill rating, meaning it is an advanced trail for experienced riders.

Despite the rating, those who made the trail say even intermediate and novice riders can enjoy it at their own pace.

The Out of Hand trail took over 100 volunteers and more than 1000 hours over two years to create.
