If you have yet to plan something fun for this fine day, consider giving it your all at axe throwing, catching a popular Victoria Film Festival movie, or visiting the Dino Lab.

If you’re hoping to keep it simple, take a walk down Dallas Road to the breakwater and Ogden Point!

Here’s 5 things to do in and around Victoria on Tuesday, May 14th:

Iona Whishaw at Bolen Books

Bolen Books is thrilled to welcome back iconic mystery novelist Iona Whishaw as she launches her latest novel, Lightning Strikes the Silence. 

This new book is the 11th installment in the beloved Lane Winslow series, and the event will be moderated by CBC’s Gregor Craigie.

It’s free to attend but registration is required. Books will be available for purchase and signing too.

Dallas Road/Ogden point

This stretch of of the coast is popular for a reason! The entire length of Dallas Road is neighboured with breathtaking views of the ocean and there are multiple staircases along the path for beach access points.

Where Dallas Road meets Dock Street, you’ll find the Breakwater access that takes you along a elevated path out over the water.

Plus, anywhere along Dallas is a great place to watch the sunset if the weather cooperates and that’s what you’re feeling!

Catch a Movie at Vic Theatre

Catch one of the most anticipated films in the Victoria Film Festival at Vic Theatre this Tuesday!

Wicked Little Letters, starring Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley, is based in the 1920s and set in the seaside town of Littlehampton.

It follows the story of Edith Swan (played by Colman) as she continues to receive profanity-strewn letters in the mail and the efforts gone into uncovering who’s sending them.

Tickets are just over $13 and can be purchased here. There’s showings at 5:10 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Note, this is a 19+ event, so minors aren’t allowed.

Axe and Grind

Need to let off some steam or are just looking for something fun and different?

Axe and Grind is where you’re actually encouraged to throw things and put a little aggression into it, so you can have fun and release the tensions from a difficult day.

Staff are there to guide you through technique and perhaps teach you a trickshot or two as well!

They offer knife throwing as well as axe throwing—customize your experience and have a blast. Check out their website for all of the different offerings and rates.

Dino Labs Inc.

Dino Lab Inc. is a high-tech, low-tech, all fun fossil restoration lab right in Victoria!

You can organize your own trip to take a look at their private gallery and prep lab to get a taste of what these incredibly dedicated individuals get up to.

It’s perfect for anyone wishing to learn more about the ancient beings that roamed before us—they even offer junior programs!

Prices will vary depending on the kind of tour you would like, but regular tours start at $40 and can be booked here.
