Residents of the Burnside-Gorge neighbourhood were rudely awakened Monday morning to the jarring sounds of explosions echoing through the quiet streets.
For those wondering about the source of the commotion, the answer lies in a destructive fire that engulfed an RV parked in the area.
Around 2 a.m., fire crews from Victoria Fire Department rushed to the incident in the 3000-block of Balfour Avenue, where they discovered flames engulfing the RV.
Firefighters initially began battling the blaze by utilizing tank water from one of their fire engines. However, as the situation intensified, they secured a hydrant water source, enabling them to attack the blaze from multiple angles.
In a social media post, the department stated that three loud explosions were heard as the vehicle’s tires ruptured. Firefighters maintained a distance, recognizing that the vehicle was equipped with propane tanks.
As the fire raged on, the high flames managed to scorch a nearby tree, and the intense heat ignited the telecom wires of a nearby home.
Fire crews were able to prevent the flames from spreading further.
There were no reported injuries resulting from the blaze.
