Sooke RCMP are asking for the public’s help identifying the occupants of a vehicle seen near the scene of a shooting that killed one family dog and wounded another last year.
Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers have obtained surveillance footage of a vehicle of interest that was in the area before and after the October 2025 shooting.
Investigators believe the vehicle is a 2008-2010 Toyota Corolla and are looking to identify the people who were inside it.
The investigation began on October 19th, 2025, after Sooke RCMP received a report that two dogs had been shot in the 2500-block of Farmer Drive.
Police were called at approximately 11:59 a.m. Investigators later reviewed surveillance footage that reportedly captured the sound of gunshots at around 11:46 a.m., followed by one of the dogs collapsing in a neighbouring driveway.
The dogs’ owners, Kaylee Peaker and Gabe Nelson, identified the animals as 15-year-old Silo and three-year-old Riptide, also known as Rip.
Silo died from his injuries, while Riptide was rushed to WAVES Veterinary Hospital in critical condition.
Peaker previously told Victoria Buzz that Riptide required five blood transfusions, chest tubes on both sides and treatment for damage to his lung and liver. Despite the severity of his injuries, Crime Stoppers confirmed in its latest appeal that Riptide survived.
The couple said the dogs had been playing near the forested edge of Nelson’s rural property shortly before the shooting and were not roaming far from home.
Police are now asking anyone who recognizes the Toyota Corolla, knows who may have been inside it or has other information about the shooting to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Sooke RCMP at (250) 642-5241 and reference file 25-5299.
Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
