Oak Bay Police have launched an investigation into the theft of approximately $6,200 worth of jewelry that was reported missing following an open house.
The theft was reported to police on August 12th, and investigators believe the items were stolen while members of the public were touring the residence.
“Open houses can create opportunities for theft when large numbers of visitors are moving through a home,” said Oak Bay Police in a media release.
“Homeowners are encouraged to remove or securely store jewellery, cash, financial documents, prescription medications, keys and other valuables before hosting an open house.”
Police recommend using a safe, locking valuables in a secure location or temporarily storing high-value items off site.
Additionally, residents can ask their realtor about visitor sign-in procedures and other security strategies for monitoring access to the home during showings.
The address of the theft was not provided.
Anyone with information related to this investigation should call Oak Bay Police (250) 592-2424, citing file number 2026-2420.
