Family have identified the young man who was killed after being struck by a truck in the early morning hours last weekend.
A GoFundMe has been launched in support of Bryan Tait, the pedestrian that was killed in an early morning collision in Saanich.
The accident occurred just after 3 a.m. on Saturday, August 8th, at the corner of McKenzie and Glanford Avenues when a commercial vehicle struck Tait.
The fundraiser was launched by the victim’s aunt, Donna Richmond, in an effort to help cover funeral and memorial costs.
Richmond said that with the permission of her sister, Tait’s mother, she created the fundraiser out of a need to find a way to help the family in a time of crisis and grief.
“Bryan was a son, a brother, a grandson, a nephew, a cousin and a valued friend,” the fundraiser reads.
“He was a young man at what should have been only the very beginning of his journey. He was loved. We are all so grateful to have had him in our world, even if it was not long enough.”
She went on to say that asking for help does not come easy to the family, but that she hopes that the community will come together around the tragic event.
Tait’s aunt also hopes that the fundraiser will ease the burden of financing the memorial.
As of this publication, the fundraiser has garnered $2,500 of its $12,000 goal.
