Telus announces $21.7M in funding earmarked for Victoria and Saanich

Telus has announced that of the $15 billion investment for British Columbian communities, $21.7 million will go towards initiatives in Victoria and Saanich. 

According to the company, this investment will support enhancements to the province’s network infrastructure and operations through 2030. 

For Victoria and Saanich, these funds will go towards boosting productivity and supporting the area and the broader Canadian economy. 

Telus says some of the funding will go towards a partnership with Cool Aid Society in Victoria, as well as community investments that support digital inclusion, youth programming and health access.

Some of the funding will also be provided to local charities, including the Crisis Intervention and Public Information Society of Greater Victoria, Comox Valley Family Services Association, the Victoria Brain Injury Society and more. 

Furthermore, the company says they will be redeveloping Telus central office buildings, supporting the circular economy, addressing the need for more rental housing and investing in wireless enhancements and wireline upgrades across Victoria and Saanich.

Between now and 2030 Telus has prioritized the following endeavours throughout BC: 

• Expanding Telus PureFibre connectivity over the next five years to more than 65 communities
• Advancing wireless coverage and capacity with more than 45 new towers 
• Strengthening Canada’s AI leadership from BC through sustainable, Canadian-controlled AI infrastructure

This funding is coming from a larger $66 billion multi-year investment in expanding access and connectivity across Canada.
