West Shore RCMP are investigating an alleged armed robbery incident that took place in the Walmart parking lot in Langford.
On Friday, July 3rd at around 7:30 p.m., police responded to the parking lot located at 860 Langford Parkway after learning a group of four youths on e-dirt bikes were performing stunts in the lot.
While stunting in the parking lot, one of the youths allegedly brandished bear spray and a knife before threatening a victim and demanding they hand over their belongings.
Police say they located the group and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the suspects fled from police on their e-dirt bikes.
One of the four suspects reportedly reached the Bear Mountain area before abandoning their bike and fleeing on foot into a wooded area.
Officers tracked down and arrested the youth with the assistance of Police Dog Services. Police say the e-dirt bike was seized and towed by police.
The investigation remains ongoing as police are working to identify and locate the remaining three youth suspects believed to be involved in the robbery.
West Shore RCMP ask that anyone who was in the Walmart parking lot on July 3rd between 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. with dash camera footage or information that could assist investigators contact police at (250) 474-2264.
Additionally, police are using this incident as a reminder to the public that the use of e-dirt bikes on public roadways is prohibited under British Columbia’s Motor Vehicle Act.
Riders caught operating e-dirt bikes on public roads may face significant penalties, including fines and the seizure of their vehicle.
