Victoria firefighters were called to the Johnson Street Parkade after a dumpster caught fire inside the downtown parking garage Tuesday afternoon.
Just before 5 p.m. on July 14th, fire crews responded to the parkade in the 700-block of Johnson Street, where the building’s sprinkler system had activated and helped keep the flames under control.
The parkade was evacuated as smoke could be seen coming from the structure.
The Victoria Fire Department said crews made quick work of the fire, preventing the situation from becoming much more serious.
“We might not always be able to have parking for our own cars downtown… but at least we’re here to save yours,” the department joked in a social media post.
A witness told Victoria Buzz that firefighters remained at the parkade for several hours following the incident.
No injuries were reported and no vehicles were damaged.
The cause of the fire has not been confirmed. VicPD are reviewing security footage from the area.
