Nanaimo RCMP have made an arrest in connection with a shooting that sent police rushing to a Nanaimo park last week.

The incident happened around 8:40 p.m. on June 3rd in Knowles Park near the intersection of Old Victoria Road and Ranier Street.

At the time, police said shots were fired from a white Audi toward people in the park before the vehicle fled the area. Investigators believed multiple occupants were inside the vehicle and described the shooting as targeted.

No injuries were reported.

A witness who spoke with Victoria Buzz said they observed four or five men exit the vehicle before the incident.

In an update released Wednesday, RCMP said officers arrested a suspect without incident on June 9th. Police also located the white Audi believed to be connected to the shooting.

No charges have been laid in relation to the June 3rd incident at this time.

Police said the individual remains in custody on unrelated matters while investigators continue to advance the case.

RCMP previously stated they do not believe there is an ongoing risk to the public.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information who has not yet spoken with police is asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP at (250) 754-2345.
