Nanaimo RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance following the theft of a shotgun from a parked vehicle earlier this month.

The theft occurred sometime between midnight and 11 a.m. in the 100 block of Cameron Road on June 6th.

During that time, an unknown suspect smashed the rear passenger window of a parked pickup truck and stole a Mossberg 500 Mossy Oak 12-gauge pump-action shotgun.

The vehicle had been parked overnight near the Maritime Museum. Also taken from the vehicle were a bank card and a blanket believed to have been used to conceal the firearm.

No ammunition was stolen.

Investigators have obtained CCTV footage showing a man walking toward the vehicle at approximately 3 a.m. on June 6th.

The individual is described as a Caucasian man wearing a black ball cap, black long-sleeve shirt, black pants and white runners.

Police said the man is considered to be a person of interest and may have information that could assist investigators.

RCMP are particularly concerned about the whereabouts of the stolen firearm and are urging anyone who may have information about the theft or the location of the shotgun to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at (250) 754-2345 and reference file 2026-17742.
