Victoria’s Inner Harbour is set to come alive with Caribbean music, food and culture next week as i-Land Fest returns with its biggest event yet.
Running from July 1st to 5th, this year’s festival has expanded from three days to five, offering a packed lineup of events in both Victoria and Vancouver.
The celebration wraps up in Victoria with three days of free programming at Ship Point, where visitors can enjoy live music, authentic Caribbean cuisine, local vendors and family-friendly activities along the waterfront.
One of the festival’s biggest highlights takes place on Saturday, July 4th, when the Caribbean Carnival Parade winds its way from Centennial Square down Government Street to Ship Point.
Expect colourful costumes, lively music, dancing and plenty of energy as performers bring the spirit of Caribbean Carnival to downtown Victoria.
Throughout the weekend, more than 45 vendors will be set up at Ship Point alongside Caribbean food vendors, a licensed beer garden, cultural demonstrations, a kids’ zone and businesses showcasing products and services.
Artists from Trinidad and Tobago, Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton and other parts of Canada will also perform during the festival.
“This festival is about creating authentic cultural experiences and building connections through music, food and culture,” said Dr. Oneil Randall, president of the Vancouver Island Caribbean Hub.
He says the festival is designed to welcome everyone, whether they’re celebrating their own Caribbean heritage or experiencing the culture for the first time.
In addition to the free waterfront festivities, the festival also includes several ticketed 19+ events, including a VIP experience, Glow Fete at Sticky Wicket Rooftop Patio and an official after-party at Ambrosia Hall.
Admission to the Ship Point festival is free, while tickets are required for the 19+ events. More information, including the full schedule, is available online.
