Happy Tuesday, Victoria!

This week is all about jazz in Victoria, with TD Victoria International JazzFest in full swing!

Whether you want to catch a show, or aren’t feeling the jazz bug today and want to take things easy with a silent book club at the Garrick’s Head Pub, there’s something going on for everyone to get excited about.

Here are 5 things to do in and around Victoria this Tuesday, June 23rd:

BEATrio for TD JazzFest at the Royal Theatre

BEATrio is the all-star trio of banjoist Béla Fleck, harpist Edmar Castañeda and drummer Antonio Sánchez.

Fleck is a 39-time Grammy nominee and 19-time winner, and a legend in the bluegrass community for his ability to blur genres and expand the possibilities of the banjo more than anyone in history.

Sánchez grew up in Mexico City, and is himself a five-time Grammy award winner as well. He’s made a name for himself as one of the great jazz drummers during his work on the solo-drumming film score of the hit 2014 film Birdman.

Castañeda hails from Colombia, and is thought to be one of the most gifted musicians of this generation.

Together, the group’s album BEATrio redefines the possibilities of their instruments and creates a sound that is unique and unforgettable.

Tickets for this show are $90.50 each and can be purchased here, although there are several ways to save when buying bundles. Check out the TD JazzFest website for more info here.

Kristin Korb Trio for TD JazzFest at Encore Victoria

Bassist and vocalist Kristin Korb is celebrated worldwide for redefining the bass-and-voice format.

A protégé of the legendary Ray Brown, Korb has sustained a three-decade international career spanning the United States and Europe.

With more than a dozen albums as leader, including Sweet Dreams (2024) where she celebrates all things Eurythmics and Annie Lennox, she has performed on countless additional recordings.

Korb’s buoyant swing feel and crystalline vocals recall Ella Fitzgerald while her bass virtuosity stands firmly in the Ray Brown tradition.

She has appeared at major festivals globally and previously performed in Victoria in club settings.

Don’t miss one of jazz’s most distinctive dual-role performers live in Victoria!

Will Bonness will be on piano with Jon McCaslin on drums.

Tickets are $42 and can be purchased here.
