Thousands expected at giant foam-filled obstacle course in Lake Cowichan

One of Vancouver Island’s messiest and most unique events is returning to the Cowichan Valley this weekend.

The 5K Foam Fest takes over Laketown Ranch on Saturday, May 30th, bringing thousands of participants together for a day of obstacles, mud, slides and foam-filled fun.

The event features a five-kilometre course packed with more than 25 obstacles, including giant inflatable slides, mud pits, climbing challenges, slip-and-slides and multiple foam zones spread throughout the course.

Organizers say participants can expect to encounter approximately 2.5 million cubic feet of foam during the experience.

Unlike a traditional race, the Foam Fest is designed to be accessible for a wide range of ages and fitness levels, with participants encouraged to complete the course at their own pace.

Obstacles are optional, allowing runners, walkers and families to tailor the experience to their comfort level.

In addition to the obstacle course itself, the festival includes food vendors, music, a licensed beer garden and a free kids zone for younger attendees.

The Vancouver Island event is being held at Laketown Ranch, located just outside Lake Cowichan, a venue known for hosting major events including music festivals and large outdoor gatherings.

The Foam Fest also supports Make-A-Wish Canada, which serves as the event’s charitable partner. Fundraising and volunteer opportunities are available throughout the day.

The first wave of participants is scheduled to begin Saturday morning, with staggered start times continuing throughout the day. Organizers expect visitors from across Vancouver Island and beyond to attend the annual event.
