Tragic house fire in Central Saanich claims life of one resident

A house fire in Central Saanich over the weekend resulted in the fatality of one resident.

In a joint statement, Central Saanich Fire and Central Saanich Police Service (CSPS) have confirmed that the blaze, which took place on Genoa Place in Saanichton, has resulted in the loss of one life on Sunday, January 4th.

CSPS and firefighters were assisted by North Saanich and Sidney Fire Departments and paramedics, who responded to the incident at 1:21 a.m.

Along with the one fatality, another resident of the home had to be treated for critical injuries relating to the fire.

As of this publication, the identity of the deceased is being withheld.

Police and fire investigators are still working to determine the cause of the blaze.
