Share

Oak Bay Police are asking for the public’s help after a theft at the Oak Bay Recreation Centre led to fraudulent transactions at businesses in Victoria.

Police say that on December 29th, shortly after 8 a.m., officers received a report that personal belongings had been stolen from a change room at the recreation centre.

The stolen items included a cellphone and a wallet containing bank cards.

Investigators say the stolen bank cards were later used to make unauthorized purchases at several businesses in Victoria.

CCTV footage shows the suspect leaving the recreation centre and later departing the area in a taxi. Oak Bay Police have since seized video from the taxi and are releasing images to the public in hopes of identifying the suspect.

Meanwhile, Oak Bay Police say they have continued proactive enforcement efforts aimed at keeping local roads safe during and after the holiday season.

On January 3th, at approximately 8:30 p.m., police were conducting an impaired driving check stop on Oak Bay Avenue. During the check, a driver provided two breath samples that registered a “warn” reading.

As a result, the driver was issued a three-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition. The vehicle was impounded for three days, and the driver left the scene on foot.

Anyone who can assist in identifying the man in the photo in relation to the fraud investigation, or who has information about this or other incidents in Oak Bay, is asked to contact the Oak Bay Police Department at (250) 592-2424 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
