A convicted killer, who was found guilty of murdering a stranger in front of Lucky Bar in downtown Victoria, is facing additional jail time for an unrelated stabbing incident.
In early 2022, Mohamed Daud Omar was involved in two incidents of violence.
In his most recent court appearance, 31-year-old Omar received four and a half years of additional prison time for aggravated assault.
On February 6th, Omar stabbed his roommate several times during an altercation.
Following his arrest, Omar was released with several conditions, but on February 28th, 2022, he would engage in an altercation which led to the death of 29-year-old John Dickinson.
Omar and Dickinson had been inside Lucky Bar when a verbal altercation broke out between them.
Security removed Omar from the bar, but he waited outside for Dickinson. Once Dickinson was outside a physical altercation broke out and Omar stabbed him twice in the scuffle.
Dickinson’s aorta was severed, leading him to lose a massive amount of blood and lose consciousness at the scene before he ultimately died of his injuries.
Omar fled the scene afterwards and called 911 to confess what had happened, but claimed he stabbed Dickinson in self-defence.
He was then taken into custody where he has remained ever since.
Omar was sentenced to life in prison for second-degree murder without the possibility for parole for 13 years, meaning the soonest Omar can hope to achieve parole will be 2035.
Despite receiving a life sentence, Omar still had not been sentenced for the incident between him and his roommate which had happened earlier in February 2022.
For this trial, Omar represented himself, facing the charges of aggravated assault and attempting to break and enter.
Following the conclusion of this most recent trial, Omar was sentenced to a further four and a half years in prison.
His eligibility for parole was unchanged by this most recent sentence.
According to court records, Omar has a history of violence and has a number of convictions stemming from Ontario between 2013 and 2017.
Omar was just 27-years-old at the time of both of these violent acts.
