Popular Victoria ice cream maker finds new home ahead of warmer season

One of Victoria’s most beloved ice cream makers is settling into a new home just in time for the return of warmer weather.

Cold Comfort Ice Cream announced on social media that it will open its new headquarters at 2716 Rock Bay Avenue later this month, marking the next chapter for the small-batch ice cream company after leaving its North Park location last fall.

The new space is set to officially open on January 30th at noon, with a limited-quantity collaboration event planned that evening from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in partnership with Working Culture Bread.

In recent posts, the company shared photos of newly installed hand-painted signage at the Rock Bay location, calling the milestone a moment that made the move “feel more real now.”

The industrial area location offers more production space and more manageable rent, two factors the business previously cited as key reasons for relocating.

Cold Comfort first revealed plans to leave its North Park storefront last summer, noting that it would remain open there through September before shifting operations.

During the transition, the business continued serving customers through its Cook Street Village shop, mobile ice cream bike and truck, and pop-ups.

The company is known for its from-scratch approach to ice cream making, using custard bases made with organic dairy, free-range eggs, organic cane sugar, and locally sourced salt.

In a recent post, Cold Comfort highlighted that its production methods differ significantly from most grocery store ice creams, which rely on pre-made dairy mixes produced at large licensed plants.

Because of provincial regulations, the business says it cannot sell its dairy ice cream wholesale without changing its production process, choosing instead to sell directly to customers.

In addition to its new Rock Bay headquarters, Cold Comfort continues to operate its retail shop at 200 Cook Street and can also be spotted around the city serving ice cream from its mobile setup or at private events.

The move signals a fresh start for the long-running local business as Victoria heads toward another busy ice cream season.
