Victoria City Councillor Matt Dell has announced he will be running for re-election in this year’s municipal election.
Dell first joined city council in 2022 and has focussed his efforts on building more housing, creating walkable communities, reducing climate emissions, investing in arts and public spaces, as well as strengthening the local economy.
Prior to joining council, Dell worked for 15 years drafting policy and legislation for the BC government, mostly for the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Post-Secondary Education.
Dell says that the things he is most proud of accomplishing on council have been getting a Crystal Pool replacement approved, purchasing the Hermann’s building in order to keep music venues available in Victoria and approving over 9,000 new homes for construction.
Furthermore, he says that downtown has been a priority of his, and is proud to have supported the City’s first Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan.
As an avid cyclist, Dell added that he is happy to have continued to invest in expanding the All Ages & Abilities (AAA) cycling network.
“I’ve loved every moment of this job, but there is still so much more work to do,” said Dell in his announcement.
“We need to continue tackling the housing and affordability crisis, keep investing in community safety and wellbeing, and stay focused on the arts, improving our parks, and continuing to support a strong local economy.”
Dell has already begun to put together a 2026 campaign team, meeting with residents and thinking through what he will prioritize for the city as the election approaches.
To ensure he is prioritizing initiatives that benefit the people of Victoria, Dell welcomes residents to email him and set up a time to grab a coffee and chat about what matters.
In addition to his work on city council, Dell is a board member for several local organizations such as the Royal and McPherson Theatres society, he is a kids musician, and is a concert promoter.
Jeremy Caradonna has also announced his intention to run for re-election.
The 2026 municipal election will take place on October 17th.
