Crash closes southbound lanes of Trans-Canada Highway near View Royal

West Shore RCMP are responding to a collision on the Trans-Canada Highway near the Six Mile Road exit.

Police say both southbound lanes are currently closed, while northbound traffic is reduced to a single lane as emergency crews work at the scene.

Motorists are being asked to expect delays and use alternate routes where possible.

Details of the crash were not released and it remains unclear how long the highway will remain closed.

Witnesses tell Victoria Buzz that a driver in a smaller vehicle crossed the median and struck a BC Transit bus head-on.

In an email to Victoria Buzz, BC Transit confirmed that a southbound bus on Highway 1 was struck early this afternoon following a two-vehicle collision in the northbound lanes.

The bus was out of service at the time and had no passengers on board.

“Fortunately, the Operator did not experience any physical injuries due to this incident.  The bus experienced front-end damage and is being transported back to our facility,” said a spokesperson with BC Transit.

The update was shared by West Shore RCMP on X shortly before 1 p.m. Monday.
