Saanich Police have reportedly already stopped 434 impaired drivers in 2025—a figure that will likely climb as officers prepare for their annual holiday crackdown.
Nearly half of the drivers stopped so far in 2025 received 90-day driving bans after blowing a fail on a breathalyzer or refusing to provide a breath sample.
A total of 211 motorists fell into that higher-risk category.
Police say the year is not over and counter-attack roadblocks will increase throughout December to catch more drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs.
This year’s preliminary numbers come after a record-setting year in 2024, when officers stopped 628 impaired drivers.
That figure was up from 468 in 2023.
Last year’s enforcement included 90-day prohibitions, shorter suspensions ranging from 24 hours to 30 days, and 469 vehicle impoundments.
Despite those previous totals, police say they continue to see too many people choosing to drive after drinking or using drugs.
“There is no excuse for driving impaired,” Saanich Police said in their latest reminder.
“Plan ahead this holiday season. Call a taxi or rideshare, take transit, or arrange a designated driver.”
So far in 2025, our officers have taken 434 impaired drivers off Saanich streets. Nearly half (211) received 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions for blowing a FAIL on a screening device or refusing to provide a breath sample.
