Another wind warning issued for Greater Victoria as stormy stretch continues

Share

Strong winds have already begun sweeping through Greater Victoria as Environment Canada issues another wind warning for the region.

The warning, issued early Thursday morning, calls for southwesterly winds reaching 50 km/h, with gusts up to 90 km/h expected through the evening before gradually easing later tonight.

According to Environment Canada, the winds are being driven by a low-pressure system moving across the south coast.

While the impact level is considered moderate, localized damage is possible.

The alert is classified as a “yellow warning” under Environment Canada’s new colour-coded weather alert system.

Yellow alerts are the least severe and signal moderate, short-term, and localized impacts, while orange and red alerts are reserved for more dangerous conditions.

Thursday’s wind warning comes after a week of stormy weather across Vancouver Island.

Earlier this week,  a major rain event on Tuesday kept Greater Victoria municipal crews working overnight to manage flooding, respond to fallen trees, and assist with power outages.

Recent storms also forced temporary closures on sections of the Galloping Goose Regional Trail and the Lochside Regional Trail due to flooding and landslide concerns.

Stay warm and dry, Victoria!
