Sooke RCMP have launched an investigation after two dogs were shot on Sunday morning, leaving one dead and one seriously injured.
On October 19th, at 11:59 a.m., police received a report of a shooting involving two dogs in the 2500 block of Farmer Drive.
Investigators reviewed CCTV footage which revealed that at 11:46 a.m., shots could be heard in the area, followed by one of the two dogs collapsing on a neighbouring driveway.
Sooke RCMP say that one of the two dogs died of its injuries while the other was taken to a local vet for immediate treatment.
Police have seized the dog’s body and a necropsy is planned in the coming days.
According to investigators, the investigation is still in its infancy and efforts are ongoing to identify possible suspects.
“At the outset, these set of circumstances seem very concerning and we will continue to seek clarity on why this happened and whether it was criminal in nature,” said Staff Sergeant Greg Willcocks of the Sooke RCMP.
“Anyone who may have seen anything who has yet to speak with police is asked to call us immediately.”
