A driver involved in a hit-and-run last month has been ticketed after a collision left two pedestrians with significant injuries outside a busy plaza.
Saanich Police said the incident happened around 10 a.m. on September 28th, when a dark-coloured Honda sedan exited Shelbourne Plaza onto Pear Street and struck two people who were walking nearby.
According to police, the vehicle failed to remain at the scene and was last seen heading west on Pear Street.
A witness who arrived moments later said other bystanders told her the woman driving the car hit the pair and kept going—causing such force that one pedestrian’s leg was broken when the car’s rear tires rolled over it.
Following a review of nearby video footage, Saanich Police’s Traffic Safety Unit identified both the vehicle and the driver.
On October 9th, the driver was issued two tickets under BC’s motor vehicle act, including one for driving without due care and attention and another for failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
Each infraction carries a $368 fine, and the driver will also face penalty points on their licence.
Police say both pedestrians suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
