Last Friday, beloved plant-based pizzeria, Virtuous Pie, announced their downtown Victoria location would be closing in mid-November.
The soon-to-be closed Victoria pizzeria is just one of Virtuous Pie’s locations, as the business was born in Vancouver.
Founders and vegan foodies Rob Milne and his sons, Ben and Alex started the Vancouver-based business in 2016 with the goal to create food that tastes good and is also good for people’s bodies and the planet.
Milne and sons opened the Victoria location of Virtuous Pie in December of 2019, just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since that time they have had to navigate numerous challenges and financial strains.
“It’s with heavy hearts that we share some difficult news,” wrote Virtuous Pie’s leadership in a social media post.
“After facing ongoing challenges in the restaurant industry, we’ve made the difficult decision to close Virtuous Pie Victoria.”
The post stated that Friday, November 14th would be the last day of service under the current ownership.
“We will truly miss our family dinners and it will ALWAYS be a nostalgic thing of his past I’m sure of it,” wrote Tamara and Braden Parks, owners of a fellow plant-based eatery in town, Fern Cafe & Bakery.
“Thank you for bringing delicious vegan pizza to Victoria. This is a massive shame and I hope this wakes people up with the trying times right now that and [sic] ongoing. So sad.”
With the Victoria location closing, the only remaining locations of Virtuous Pie will be its flagship Vancouver location in Chinatown, as well as a satellite location all the way in Cologne, Germany.
No announcement has been made as to what will take over Virtuous Pie’s Victoria location.
