11-year-old Victoria cancer patient designs new pattern for local sock company

An 11-year-old cancer patient has teamed up with Victoria-based sock company Outway to create a design in support of the Island Kids Cancer Association (IKCA).

This marks the second collaboration between Outway and Eamonn Millar.

Millar was diagnosed with leukemia in April of last year and has since been turning his creative gifts into a force for good.

According to Outway, while in the hospital, Millar designed his first sock pattern, dubbed ‘Dreams Gone Wild,’ which became a symbol of awareness and connection for youth suffering from cancer.

This second collaboration between the local boy and sock company is called ‘Enchanted Deep,’ which builds on the success of the first design.

“People tell me ‘Dreams Gone Wild’ have become their lucky socks,” said Millar.

“My Victoria Oncology Team wears them every time I go in for treatment, and other kids wear them on their chemo days. That makes me really proud because the socks give people strength and something good to hold onto.”

He added that he hopes the new design, featuring an axolotl on a snorkeling adventure, will do the same to make people feel happy and confident when they wear the socks.

“It’s a privilege to collaborate with Eamonn,” said Rob Fraser, Founder and CEO of Outway.

“His creativity and resilience embody the spirit of Outway, and bringing his second design to life in support of such an important cause is an honour.”

Outway is donating all net proceeds from the sale of Millar’s sock designs to the IKCA, who are a local non-profit that supports families on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands while they navigate a childhood cancer diagnosis.

IKCA provides these families with practical help, health and wellness resources, financial assistance as well as community programs tailored to meet their needs.

Millar and Outway’s first collaborative design was released in fall of 2024 and garnered a total of $19,332 for the IKCA between its release and May 2025.

Both the ‘Dreams Gone Wild’ and the ‘Enchanted Deep’ designs are available for purchase via their online shop
