Statistics Canada has just released the top baby names for last year, and unsurprisingly, many of the same names remain as frontrunners.
When it comes to girls, Olivia was ranked as the most popular girls name of the year, as a whopping 1,639 babies were registered with that name.
For boys, Noah topped the list once more, with 2,115 little ones with this as their name.
According to Statistics Canada, who released this report yesterday, both Olivia and Noah started gaining popularity in 1995, and haven’t slowed down since then.
The top 10 baby girl names in Canada for 2024 were:
- Olivia – 1,639
- Charlotte – 1,528
- Emma – 1,358
- Amelia – 1,123
- Sophia – 1,086
- Sofia – 921
- Mia – 905
- Chloe – 868
- Lily – 794
- Ava – 782
The top 10 baby boy names in Canada for 2024 were:
- Noah – 2,115
- Liam – 1,694
- Theodore – 1,429
- Leo – 1,410
- William – 1,367
- Oliver – 1,244
- Lucas – 1,183
- James – 1,131
- Benjamin – 1,090
- Thomas – 1,061
StatCan also reports that from 1991 to 2024, many flower names for girls have shot up in popularity—Violet, Rose, and Ivy, as some examples.
As for the name “James”, it’s never really gone out of style—it’s ranked in the top 35 names every single year since 1991!
