Heads up to motorists and anyone commuting around the region this weekend.
Tour de Victoria will be taking over the streets of Greater Victoria, meaning some roads may be closed for a period of time.
On Saturday, August 16th, there will be an estimated 2,500 cyclists participating in the Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria.
The race begins at the BC legislature, but stretches to the far reaches of East Sooke and upper Saanich.
Cyclists are coming from all over Canada and the United States to compete in the largest one-day cycling event in Victoria.
To help manage the road closures, VicPD members, certified traffic control attendants and course marshals will control cyclists and traffic flow along the route.
According to Tour de Victoria, the first ride starts in downtown Victoria at 7 a.m., and riders are expected to be cycling in the region until around 3:30 p.m.
Furthermore, the designated route only affects certain roads in each municipality, with timing varying in each area.
Despite the best efforts of volunteers and police, VicPD warns that people can expect minor traffic delays throughout the region.
As the race starts and finishes in James Bay, that area may be more susceptible to delays and longer-term closures.
