One person hospitalized after vehicle plunges into Oak Bay grocery store parking lot

One person was taken to hospital Thursday after a vehicle crashed through a fence and plunged into a grocery store parking lot in Oak Bay.

The incident occurred just before 12:45 p.m. when the vehicle crashed through a wooden fence, fell several feet, and landed on its roof in the Save-On-Foods parking lot on Fort Street.

“On August 28th at approximately 12:45 p.m., police responded to a single-vehicle incident near the intersection of Fort Street and Trent Street. Officers arrived to find a vehicle resting on its hood, having reportedly collided with a wooden fence and fallen several feet,” said VicPD spokesperson Gemma Stroobant.

Photos show the wrecked car flipped on its roof with a smashed wooden fence dangling above where it landed.

Police say drugs and alcohol don’t appear to have played a role in the crash.

“BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) and the Fire Department were also present. BCEHS transported one person to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” added Stroobant.

Police say the driver’s injuries are not life-threatening.
