Luigi the cat reunited with family after going missing on BC Ferries

After nearly two weeks of worry, Luigi the tuxedo cat is back where he belongs.

The two-year-old rescue cat, who slipped out of his family’s vehicle during a BC Ferries sailing from Duke Point to Tsawwassen on August 9th, was finally found yesterday hiding under a trailer at the Tsawwassen terminal.

Jeff Meier, a BC Ferries Commercial Services driver, spotted a black and white cat and quickly alerted Karen from Halo’s Pet Rescue.

Karen has been leading the charge to find Luigi since day one and wasted no time heading to the terminal with her tracking dog, Halo.

With the help of BC Ferries crew, they worked to lure Luigi out, but it wasn’t until his mom Neelya made the trip from Vernon and called out to him that he finally came out of hiding.

“Once Luigi heard her voice, that was it—he came right out,” said BC Ferries.

The reunion ended an emotional search that spanned both Nanaimo and Tsawwassen terminals. Crew members had been keeping watch and even left food out just in case Luigi was nearby.
