An earlier version of this article wrongfully claimed the project was nearly-complete, when there is much work left to be done. It was just the prefabricated portion of the construction project that able to be completed in two weeks.
A four-plex home, located in Esquimalt, was able to have much of its prefabricated construction completed in just two weeks.
Together, Collective Carpentry, Waymark Architecture and local general contractor Frontera Homes believe this type of build could be the answer for sustainable, missing middle homes in the region.
After two-weeks, the the prefabricated portion of this construction project saw a fully above-grade structure with a weather-protective shell built using panels, though there is still much work to be done
Representatives from Waymark Architecture say this demonstrates how modern methods of construction can meet pressing housing and climate goals in Greater Victoria and beyond.
“The goal of this project is to create an appealing alternative to the detached home while building new family oriented housing in the heart of our growing community. We want to show that sprawl is not inevitable, nor are shoebox condos,” said Graeme Verhulst, Waymark Architect.
“We chose to use prefabrication in this project to accelerate the building time, reduce waste, and support Passive House-level performance.”
This four-plex that currently has construction underway is located at 958 Wollaston Street.
