VicPD’s Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation of a collision in Esquimalt which led to a pedestrian’s death.
Police say that just before 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29th, dispatch received a report of a pedestrian being struck by a driver at the intersection of Head Street and Esquimalt Road.
VicPD responded and reported that the driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and has been cooperating with police.
However, the pedestrian who was struck did not survive the collision, and later succumbed to their wounds while being treated in-hospital.
BC Emergency Health Services spokesperson Bowen Osoko says that paramedics responded at 7:51 p.m. with two ambulances that included an advance care team.
“Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment to one patient who was transported to hospital in critical condition,” said Osoko.
VicPD said in a media release that their thoughts are with the victim’s family.
Following the collision, traffic in the area was diverted for several hours while VicPD officers and other investigators gathered evidence.
VicPD did not mention if alcohol or intoxication had a part to play in this tragic incident.
Police say the investigation is ongoing, and the BC Coroners Service will conduct their own investigation.
