Nanaimo RCMP have reported that a pedestrian has died after being struck by vehicle late Tuesday evening.
This marks the second pedestrian death this week on Vancouver Island, as a pedestrian was killed by a motor vehicle collision on the same evening in Esquimalt.
The Nanaimo collision took place at around 10:20 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29th, in the 200-block of St. George Street.
Police say that firefighters and paramedics also responded to this call.
Tragically, a 25-year-old man was struck and killed in a collision with a motor vehicle.
Police say that they were able to determine from witness accounts that the victim was lying in the roadway when struck by an eastbound vehicle.
The victim reportedly died at the scene.
Additionally, Nanaimo RCMP say that the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Unlike the incident in Esquimalt, Nanaimo RCMP say that drugs and alcohol have been ruled out as contributing factors to the driver’s abilities.
The BC Coroners Service was advised of the incident and attended the scene to begin their own investigation.
Following the incident, the roadway was closed for several hours while investigators examined the scene.
Police say the investigation is continuing and no details on why the victim was laying on the road were released.
