A death that was originally believed to be a homicide in the Port Renfrew area has now been deemed non-criminal, according to RCMP investigators.
On the evening of June 23rd, Sooke RCMP were called to Pachidah Road in Port Renfrew after a report of a man with blood on him.
When officers arrived shortly after 9 p.m., they located the injured man. Despite life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
At the time, the circumstances appeared suspicious, and the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) took over the investigation.

The incident was initially treated as a potential homicide, and one individual was taken into custody.
However, following further police investigation and a concurrent fact-finding review by the BC Coroners Service, RCMP now say the death is no longer considered suspicious.
The individual who was arrested has also been cleared of any wrongdoing.
The investigation has since been turned over to the BC Coroners Service, and no further details are expected to be released.
