Suspicious death in Port Renfrew being investigated as homicide

A suspicious death in the small Vancouver Island community of Port Renfrew is now being treated as a homicide, according to RCMP.

Just after 9 p.m. on June 23rd, Sooke RCMP responded to a report of a man with blood on him near Pachidah Road.

When officers arrived, they found an injured man nearby. Despite life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Due to the circumstances, the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) was called in and has since taken over the investigation.

“This appears to be an isolated incident,” said Corporal Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the BC RCMP. Police confirmed that one individual was arrested at the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing and no further details have been released at this time.
