A Victoria staple for decades has served its final pannekoek.
The De Dutch Pannekoek House location at 4011 Quadra Street, just off McKenzie Avenue, has quietly closed its doors, according to the company’s website.
The update, which now lists the location as “permanently closed,” comes without a public announcement or explanation.
The popular breakfast and brunch spot has been part of the Saanich community for generations, known for its unique take on traditional Dutch-style pannekoeken—a thin, crêpe-like pancake with a variety of sweet and savoury toppings.
While the exact opening date of the Victoria location has yet to be confirmed, it’s been operating at the Quadra and McKenzie intersection for at least 40 years.
It was a go-to for everything from weekend family breakfasts to casual coffee meetups.
Founded in Vancouver in 1975 by John Dys, De Dutch was inspired by Dys’ travels to the Netherlands, where he fell in love with the flavours and atmosphere of Dutch eateries. What started as a single location grew into a beloved BC-based chain with outposts across the province.
The Quadra Street closure leaves Victoria without a location after its downtown location also shut down several years ago.
We’ll update this story once we confirm the official opening date of the Quadra Street location and any further details from the company.
