Tilt at Phillips Backyard was kicked off with a bang last night in downtown Victoria!
New year, new backyard—the layout was completely different this year, apart from the main stage, of course.
Phillips Backyard enveloped parts of Store and Pembroke Streets as it expanded its reach this year to include a second stage.
The BC Music stage featured several local bands that played between sets on the main stage, which allowed for no awkward breaks between headliners.
The day kicked off with DJ Delvin who kept the vibes high before King Bob opened the night up on the main stage.
Following King Bob, Fionn took over and played an amazing set that included a couple of iconic covers—“Someday” by The Strokes and “Toxicity” by System of a Down.
Then, Carmine opened up the BC Music stage before hometown heroes, The Bankes Brothers took over the main stage after flying into Victoria just three hours prior to their set.
Next up on the BC Music stage was Cold Fame who played to an enormous crowd, once attendees started to get into the rhythm of the night.
Band of Skulls was phenomenal and had the crowd in the palms of their hands as they played their bangers, plus some new songs.
Hillsboro, another local Victoria act, then headlined the BC Music stage before the night’s closing act, Cold War Kids took the main stage.
Cold War Kids played to a sunset and a crowd of adoring fans, packed into Phillips Backyard like sardines (but in a good way).
There are still two days of Tilt at Phillips Backyard ahead, with bands such as Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Two Feet, G-Eazy and Snotty Nose Rez Kids set to headline Saturday and Sunday nights.
