The Brockstar is not going anywhere but the Vancouver Canucks!
In a move that surprised fans and analysts alike, the Vancouver Canucks kicked off NHL free agency by locking in fan favourite Brock Boeser to a seven-year contract worth a total of $50.75 million.
The deal will carry a $7.25 million average annual value, giving Boeser the long-term stability many weren’t sure he’d find in Vancouver.
It’s a major shift in narrative after months of speculation that the 27-year-old winger may have played his final game in blue and green. But within the first hour of free agency, the Canucks made their intentions crystal clear: this core group is sticking together.
“Brock has been a huge part of our organization, and we are extremely happy to have him back in the fold,” said Allvin. “He has scored some big goals for our hockey club and has established himself as a very dangerous offensive player. Brock is a leader and culture setter in our locker room, and we’re confident he will continue to play an important role for our team moving forward doing great work both on and off the ice.”
Boeser’s re-signing wasn’t the only news out of Vancouver.
The Canucks also announced long-term extensions for forward Conor Garland and star goaltender Thatcher Demko, sending a loud message to the rest of the league — Vancouver is betting on its current core to compete.
Conor Garland, known for his relentless forechecking and gritty play, inked a six-year deal with an average annual value of $6 million. The 29-year-old had one of the best seasons of his career in 2024–25, registering 50 points (19 goals, 31 assists) in 81 games. He also notched career highs in average ice time (18:39) and power play goals (7).
“Conor is a core member of our hockey team and a player who has taken on a bigger role with the club the past couple seasons,” said Canucks GM Patrik Allvin. “He competes hard every day, drives play on the ice, is relentless on the forecheck and is really tough to play against.”

Garland brings leadership and international experience as well — he was a key part of Team USA’s gold medal run at the 2025 World Championships.
Rounding out the trio of signings, the Canucks also reached a three-year agreement with goalie Thatcher Demko, worth $8.5 million annually.
Demko, 29, is widely considered one of the top goaltenders in the league and has been the backbone of the Canucks’ recent resurgence. While injuries limited him to 23 games in 2024–25, his standout 2023–24 season saw him post a 35-14-2 record with a .918 save percentage and five shutouts. He was named to the NHL All-Star Game, the NHL’s Second All-Star Team, and was a finalist for the Vezina Trophy.
“Demmer is one of the hardest working players on our team and gives our group great confidence when he takes the net,” said Allvin. “A complete package of size, strength, rebound control, and athletic ability, our players know that they have an opportunity to win each and every game he plays.”
Demko, originally drafted by the Canucks in 2014, already sits tied for third in franchise wins. His playoff heroics, particularly his 48-save shutout in Game 6 against Vegas in 2020, are legendary among Canucks fans.
