The British Columbia College of Social Workers (BCCSW) have issued a warning regarding a man fraudulently practicing social work on Vancouver Island.

They received reports that Brent Ramone Dempsey has identified himself as a registered social worker with the BCCSW in Port Hardy, Campbell River, Comox, Courtnenay, and other possible areas in BC.

According to a release, he may be offering counselling or other services, representing himself as a qualified individual to the public.

“Mr. Dempsey has never been and is not a registrant of the BCCSW,” the release reads.

A concerned individual, who asked to remain anonymous, is warning the public about Dempsey, who is allegedly posing as a social worker using fake credentials and a forged CDI College diploma.

“He scammed me out of $920 and vanished. He fakes insurance documents, asks for Bitcoin tips on Discord, and falsely claims to offer cybersecurity help. There’s also a case in Port Hardy involving an elderly victim.”

“If you’ve been affected, please report it to police—every report helps.”

BCCSW’s warning states that he is not authorized to practice, or can claim the title of being a social worker in BC.
